Backup Power Generation

Why Propane Is Ideal For Backup Generators

When you live in a remote area, a power outage can be both dangerous and frightening. However, when your home appliances are run on propane, or you’re using a backup propane generator, power interruptions are less of a worry. Propane-powered generators are installed outside and can power everything from your refrigerator to your phone charger within your home. As one of the most reliable fuel-sources, propane is ideal for powering backup generators. When you set up automatic or will-call delivery with CanGas, you can count on dependable service, so you’ll never have to worry about running out. In addition to functioning as an emergency power supply for essential appliances, a propane generator may also act as the primary power source for your home.

Your Backup Generator Options

Portable
Generators

Portable generators are fairly inexpensive appliances, but worth their weight in gold when it comes to a power emergency. Typically, portable propane generators are smaller in size. Instead of using bulk propane supply, portable generators run off small propane cylinders. They can easily be hooked up to your home's electrical panel to provide temporary backup during an interruption or be used to power outdoor-equipment.

Standby
Generators

Standby generators, while more expensive, allow you to power your entire home using propane. They are a permanent installation, feeding fuel from a bulk propane tank and converting it to electrical energy to be used throughout your home. Standby generators will kick-in automatically when the power goes out.

Why Make The Switch?

Benefits Of Using A Propane Generator

You can make the switch to propane at any time, whether you want to use a propane generator to power your entire home or as a backup or supplement to your furnace and propane hot water tank. Propane is a clean and efficient alternative to other fuel sources, particularly oil and gasoline. When you live in a remote area, any number of things can cause a utility interruption, including storms, equipment failures, traffic accidents, or even scheduled maintenance. Because so much of our homes require electricity to function, relying on a propane generator can bring peace of mind during emergencies.

When To Use A Propane Generator

Most often, propane generators are only used during emergencies. Much like a tankless water heater, your generator will not turn on until it’s needed, remaining in standby until it detects a power outage. If your generator is your only propane appliance, you may not require regular propane delivery, but our will-call delivery option could be perfect for you. If you suspect you’re getting low, don’t hesitate to reach out! We pride ourselves on being a reliable and dependable propane supplier.
